Thankyou For Showing Me Your Curios

In our meat-eating household, there are many representations of animals.

These concertinas tie in with my thinking about climate change, the degredation of the environment and its impact on all animals. And to our political/cultural assumption that as humans we are the top species.

The series is about what animals give back to us, how we write about them, worship them, make them our companions, how we paint and photograph them , how we use them as national symbols while at the same time eliminating their habitat

About our reliance on their existence for ours

Poodle from the series, Thankyou for Showing Us your Curios

Poodles are hunting dogs, originally trained to retrieve ducks

Mostly now we have trained them as lap dogs, as companion animals. Some people think of them as tiny humans in dog suits (Donna Haraway). Our political /cultural assumptions as humans,is that as the top species, we can buy and sell them, dress them up, we can control their existence.

They are of course their own species, and we have a kinship relationship with them. This series is about what animals give back to us, how we write about them, worship them, how we paint and photograph them.

Its about our reliance on their existence for ours
