Asbestos

Australia has been a prolific producer of and manufacturer of asbestos products. Asbestos was exported around the world. Most buildings built in Australia before 1987 used this "miracle" fibre of the 20th century. We know that exposure to  asbestos dust can lead to asbestosis and mesotheliomia. Both deadly. The James Hardie company, the main miner and producer of asbestos knew about this deadly effect seventy years ago. They continued to make huge profits from asbestos sales. Today all over the world people are dying from the effects of the exposure to this deadly dust.
This work is part of a MAPgroup  project investigating the legacy of asbestos.
